About Battle Academy – Operation Sealion

It is September 1940, and the Germans launch their invasion of Britain. In this fictional "What If?" Campaign , you command the Home Guard's desperate counterattacks against German glider troops and the tenacious defence of the South Coast Sea Front. Mount "Butcher and Bolt" missions with the clandestine Auxiliary Units or land coastal raiders from Motor Gun Boats. Can you hold back the might of Operation Sealion?

Features:

• New British Units - Homeguard, Sticky Bombers, Guy Armoured Car, MkVI Light Tank, A10 and A13 Cruiser tanks, 4inch Gun Lorry, Armadillo Armoured truck, Boyes Rifle Carrier, Auxilliary Unit Commandos and snipers, and Motor Gun Boats
• Ten varied single player missions - new "silent kill" attacks allow for clandestine stealth missions, while naval units allow raiders to be transported around coastal maps.

I am probably the only one who did not know about the Sealion expansion. Burn me at the stake if you will (I have all the games), but this one sounds a little bizarre at first read-through. I was expecting something more realistic, like Eastern Front with T-34s and stuff. I will now shut up until I buy it and play it. Thanks

Sooooo used to the subject being a major bone of contention in some cases among history buffs.

But I won't mind acquiring this for my stash of games 'worth having on my PC'.

Just a bit embarassed I haven't really mastered Market Garden yet.

I have to say that I really like the way that they guys have created the SL campaign. There is plenty to do, and it all works as a cohesive thread. There are also a lot of historical units which give interesting game elements. I think we knew that some people prefer to stay strictly by the history, but I am really impressed by it so far :).

I think the problem we are having with the Eastern Front is how to split it up - it's just too large for a single campaign, and we might even want to end up having major actions or points, like Stalingrad, being their own campaign. We want to make sure that you can get a good feel for each of the phases of the war on that front.

I think Market Garden really demands playing to the strengths of every unit. I know it beats me senseless pretty much any time I try and take anything for granted - but then, I think I'm at the low end of the bellcurve when it comes to tactical thinking ;).

Cheers

Pip

Well we did squeeze a little more information out of you, then. :) It all sounds great.

The MP experience in this game is really outstanding.

I'm looking at SL for the new content ... I'd gladly pay Slitherine to build new units, new actions, new scenery. Some players wanted some commando missions and perhaps the SL could deliver this and it would make it easier for me to create a scenario ... Raid on St Nazaire

Pip,

I've always felt that the Eastern Front should be a totally new game ... BA II (Ostfront) ... just as long as the name "ostfront" isn't rights reserved  .

This way, you don't need to split it up and players can immedately jump into the content (scenario tweaks, etc) without having to wait for the BAM's to be released ... blah blah blah. Of course, asking the customer to shell out more cash for a full game when it's just the same old BA attached with a module wouldn't be kind, but ... If it takes a major re-write to get moving ahead to more functionality for the player (ie, battle generator, easier scenario/campaign building tools, etc), then I'm all for it when opening the wallet!
