Designing your own maps

How detailed is this?

Can you create your own objects to be placed in the map or can you only select from a predefined list of items? In other words if I want to make a map with a certain looking building or vehicle, can I create one for the map?

Hello Xerkis.

This is not my field, but i THINK you will be able to build your own models, export them with truevisions exporter, put the files (textures, model etc) in the level editors assets folder and use them when building maps. This will work right away when playing skirmish. But if you would like to play the map with a friend over network you will have to send the level + files and have your friend put them in the correct directory's.

Awesome!
8)

Would this also include soldiers and their gear? Say if we want to add a new weapon, uniform, etc. – will that be able to be done as well?

You would not be able to add a new weapons or gear. But you can probably change the models to anything you like. Although i think we would have to provide a template (weapons, gear and soldiers) model that you can alter.

Providing a model templete would increase player involvement in the ongoing development of the game :D :D

Yup, that would be cool. Or Afro-American and South American skins for US uniforms. The list goes on, and this is only for the American uniforms... I just wish we had all the time in the world :)

Yeah, I have many ideas on this as well. I wish I could get my hands on the map maker for TA.
Hint – hint.

How long would it take to design a small, standard and large map? There must be a limit to the amount of detail that can be included, as the game has to run on many different computer systems. What will be the min and max spec's required to run the program etc?

How long it takes to make the map does of course depend a lot on your experience in our level editor and level editors in general. And your over all working speed. It's really hard to say. And the design process before that can also take a lot of time.

The specs are about the same as for the game, but if you put extreme amounts of content into a level, it becomes harder for your computer to catch up both in the editor and when you use your level ingame.

Can't give much more precise information then that. For us it maybe takes a day to make the first draft of a level, then an eternity of tweaking :)

1. How large would the playing area be of a small, medium and large size map?
2. Would it be possible for a player to design a couple of maps based on the Para drops and guilder landings by the British on D-day?
3. Is it possible to move from one map to another, as in battle 1 takes place on map A and battle 2 takes place on map B etc.
4. Are maps linked, as in A, B, C or could maps be linked as in fighting a ongoing battle/s such D-Day (one part only).
5. When you use your 'level ingame' does this mean that it may be possible to fight in buildings, as in floor levels?

1. I believe they are 200x200-400x400 meters or something like that. In theory, one could make either smaller or larger maps though, but I'm not sure how well it will fit the game mechanics.
2. You can make a map that looks like any such battlefield of course. There aren't any British para troopers in the game though (yet).
3, 4. We do not currently have any campaign feature for your scenarios, so you would have a make a series of scenarios but that can't be linked together.
5. No buildings in the game that can be entered for release.

Six squads of British Para troops, a 400 x 400 metre map, a bridge building kit and a moonlit night 8)
