It seems that Red army Tank Corps were division sized units whilst Tank Armies were corps sized units. See this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tank_corps ... t_Union%29.

Keeping in mind this we could change the naming for russian armoured units from Tank Corps to Tank Armies.

If that's so then we might need to rename the Mech Corps into Mech Armies too. The problem is that the Mech Corps was used for tank formations prior to the Summer of 1942 when the Tank Armies were formed based upon the new tank brigades.

Rifle corps were division sized infantry units so then we can speak of Army as the higher level unit. Tank Corps was the lower level and Tank Army the higher level. But for mechs we don't have this distinction. Soviet Mech armies only appeared in 1946. But the Russians had the 1st and 2nd Cavalry Army.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_(Soviet_Army)

Actually the Russians had many Cavalry Corps that consisted of a mix of mechs, horses and foot soldiers. So mech units were partly the cavalry units.

Should you maybe update the Soviet counter images for your large counters so army units show xxxx instead of xxx, corps xxx instead of xx (like Rifle corps)?

So regardless of what we do we will have some inconsistencies.

Right now I've let the Guards units be named Guards Tank Army and Guards Mech Army while the regular ones are still called Tank Corps and Mech Corps. Should we keep that or should we let the automatic name be Tank Army and Mech Army?

We could let the units in the 1939-1941 scenarios remain with the names Mech Corps and Tank Corps or should we replace those as well?

Or should we keep the Tank and Mech Corps as names even though these formations were smaller than the same German Corps formations.

    E. g. for Germans we have a similar inconsistency. There weren't any Panzergrenadierkorps, but we use that term. There were Panzergrenadier divisions and they wer used for panzerkorps or armeekorps (mot.). We decided to keep panzergrenadier to simulate their role. Panzergrenadier were more mechs than motorised and that's consistent with our naming of the units.

If we ignore the inconsistencies then it's easy to simply use Tank and Mech Army for the Russian units regardless of time and status.

May be the best thing to do would be to change Tank Corps into Tank Armies and Mechanized Corps into Mechanized Armies. Some russian armies were named as single "Armies" but they have attached many mechanized units and even tank brigades so the name "Mechanized" would make sense for those units.

I agree that this change should be only in automatic naming and not in the names of 1939, 1941 and 1942 scenarios that should be let as they are now since it was 1942 the year when the new organization of the Red Army took place.

About to include (xxxx) instead of (xxx) in soviet units I also thought about this when I edited the counters but I finally decided to keep the (xxx) symbol keeping in mind that the size of a russian army corresponds with the size of a corps unit of a western Europe country.
