Kampinsoka forest report (scenario 5)

Cool! Yet another type of mission.
At the deployment fase i just reinforced the units. I advanced along a broad front but decided to stay south of the Vistula river. My guts were right that on this map Modlin would be just unpassable (strenght 20 units...omg!). An important secundary objective is the airfield (22,19) for the airforce. Otherwise the distance would be too long and i wanted to use my stuka's every turn. The strength 1 polish cavalry that appeared was kinda awkward. The enemy didn't give me a hard time, the terrain did. In this scenario my infantry units were leading the way since forest terrain is armour unfriendly. I did use the armour to finish off the pounded enemy units thou. The Ai did what it supposed to do, at least to delay my units to meet the objectives. They did manage to eliminate 2 of the aux cavalry units. I met the objectives at turn 9, and thus another DV. I ended with 1909 prestige points.
Another interesting mission i must say. The variety of mission objectives motivates to keep on playing. And to catch a glimp of what the next assignment might be... i would guess Modlin.

Kampinsoka Forest - Colonel - previous DV
I started with around 800 prestige here and after elite reinforcements I was down to 230. Got another elite Gebirgsjäger after disbanding one of those before, will do the same again.
With 20 (19) units in reserve and 16 (18 due to 2 remaing elite units) to deploy I dont have to worry about buying new units fore now.
Units used:
Air(5): 1 Bf109, 1 Bf109, 3 Ju87
Armor(3): 3 Pz38 (leaving 1 at home)
Recon(1): 1 SdKfz222 (might need another one)
Artillery(5): 2 10,5cm, 3 Sturmpanzer I
Infantry(4): 2 Wehrmacht, 2 Gebirgsjäger
Not very balanced/realistic actually - like mentioned elsewhere I would like some penalty system (higher prestige costs) when the force composition is starting to get too strange.
The STR20 MTN troops around Modlin and the STR15 fortress were nice touches I think.
Overall a bit too easy again, I had about 5 turns to spare when I essentially reached all the objectives, but kept playing (did not take the last objective) for some additional XP (seems like I have hit the cap even before that with a lot of my units). Again, the "flavour" units just sitting there and allowing themself to be ground to dust feels wrong. But I really like the alternative objectives I have seen in the scenarios thus far.
Ended with a DV and 1214 prestige, but have some units that will need a bunch of reinforcements. It would be great if the loses already inflicted on the troops around Modlin would be remembered for the next scenario, but on the other hand this would make it easier again.
Well, time for a break and enjoying some of the great weather we have here at the moment

Great weather here as well, sitting outside with the laptop and drinking a nice cold one

This scenario was probably my least favorite of the campaign. it was not horrible, but it wasn't very compelling either. I think this scenario could use some more enemy resistance because I managed to go through the forest nearly unchallenged. I also didn't like that there wasn't any way to keep track of the number of troop trains that you destroyed, but this wasn't a huge problem since they were all in bunches of 3-4. This is one scenario that I think is nearly impossible to NOT get a decisive victory on.

Just starting this mission and noticed 1 error in the breifing it should read spotted polish forces and not spotting polish forces.

Just now finished this mission and found it ok but very easy! Noticed 1 thing about the AI, A polish cavalry was able to move up on one of my arty units but didnt even fire at it though it could have!

Please review the scenario description. OK my english is not the best, but I think that the description is a little bit confusing.

A bit late to the party, so I don't have much more to say than what has been previously said. The ... overfortified Modlin made me chuckle knowing which scenario would follow this one

It's really nice thus far to have such inventivity in the maps, with that kind of foreshadowing. Makes the whole thing very immersive.
As for the scenario : my least favorite thus far, but for a balancing reason only. The new objective type (destroying the trains) is really great, but the scenario is largely about the terrain, the forest with limited movement and field of view, that, on paper should bring some tension, as you could easily be ambushed with unexpected polish cavalry assaults ... which never actually materialized. Simply put, I think the scenario would have had a lot more impact with more patrollers/defenders in the forest, mounting counterattacks as you slog through the trees.

Starting prestige: 1624. Colonel.
1. Briefing: "spotted" not "spotting"; no need for comma after "final stand" (although I have seen the discussion on this!); "its" not "it's"; "east" not "East"; "forest" no need for comma; "troop trains" not "Troop Trains"; "besiege" rather than "siege".
2. Got my first hero! Ju87B Defender +1
3. Left Modlin fortresses alone - 20 strength INF in 8 entrenchment deserves respect! Why they don't attack like the Warsaw fortress baffles me, though.
4. Lost 2 cavalry in the same turn - one to over-zealous scouting into an ambush; one to the fortress in front of Warsaw. It fought back! What's with that!
Result: 9/16 DV
