THE ACADEMY
A place of relaxation from the tensions of the League matches.
A spot where finding random opponents for specified MP games.
A location where organizing battles with pre-arranged armies.
A site of experimentations and pure amusement, where tables and rankings are not allowed.
This would like to be “The Academy”!
A common thread of meeting for:
- non competitive games
- to be played against random opponents
- with specified armies
- and eventually with pre/arranged battle arrays
- to recreate historically accurate engagements
- overcoming the restrictions of the actual MP challenge system
- in order to fully enjoy the game in all its possibilities.
So, newly arrived gamers and old-timer grognards, let’s come together here, to start some epic battles!

I have accepted the challenge, Lysimachos. I actually think your Teutonic selection is a bit "foot heavy" but I have picked the army exactly as you have indicated. I am reading some stuff on the Teutonics at the moment and I will come up with what I think is an "authentic" Teutonic army shortly.

Thank's for accepting the challenge.
Being not really expert of this time period, I just tried to sort out two credible army arrays using the hints coming from the DAG list, wich has quite a lot of foot for the Teutonics.
Ready to accept a different challenge anyway, if you like to launch one!

Well, let's do this one first - I have to say that I am fairly certain what the result will be as the Teutonic foot are a complete liability. I think the Teutonic army historically was predominantly mounted - maybe a 80-20 or a 75-25 ratio of horse to foot. So mainly Brother knights, crusader and mercenary knights, and turkopolen (light cavalry). The foot contingent was made up variously of brother spearmen and crossbowmen, mercenaries and subject spear and bowmen. These are what the "Eternal Empire" book term the "core troops". Other formations classed as "optional" include town militia troops, mounted crossbowmen and handgunners.

Lysimachos, I have been told about your "Ottoman Turkish scenarios" where you have given lances to the Ottoman cavalry. I would be interested in a game or two to see how that works out at some stage.

Hi Lysimachos,
If not taken I will give it a try.
Cheers.

They are S&S scenarios that Ghilman type cavalry with lances, not specifically Ottoman scenarios.

OK then, I misunderstood - I'll knock that idea on the head because I am just interested in the Ottomans at the moment.

Well Pete, if you're interested in playing some games with the Ottomans vs specified armies & against random opponents why not posting your requests here?
This thread should just be the place for this kind of challenges!

OK, I am working the next three days but I will come up with something for the Ottomans at the weekend. My second Muradian encounter scenario could be a possibility too if you are interested.

3 commanders, "field" x1 and "troop" x2 (85pts)
Lysimachos, I have a "new model army" for the Ottomans to try out. I would like to match it against a medieval Serbian army. I cannot make my army from the DAG so it would have to be a quick scenario that I would knock up (takes half an hour). I would also put fortifications somewhere in the centre of the map for the Ottomans to hold. If this appeals to you, could you list your army here and I will build it into the scenario.
"New Model" Ottoman army
"Field", "troop" and "troop" commanders
2x Qapu Khalqi cavalry, elite, lance (46pts)
6x Veteran Timariots, light spear, drilled (96pts)
4x Timariots, light spear (60pts)
6x Akinjis (60pts)
2x Veteran Janissaries, Elite, armoured (32pts)
4x Janissaries, armoured (52pts)
3x Janissary handgunners (15pts)
6x Azab archers LF (30pts)
2x Light artillery (24pts)
35BG's in total.

Wonderful! Just design yourself the scenario and create a Serbian army you feel historical. I will take it up against your Ottomans in a game with a free deployment option on.

Another interesting idea that I will flag up. In the 13thC the Teutonic knights were based on the eastern borders of Hungary for a short while - and here they came up against the pagan Cumans. This historical match-up might be worth a try at some point.

New "Muradian encounter 2" challenge for Lysimachos is on the system, password "lysimachos".
I have slightly altered the terrain (no stream this time and extra line of "broken round" in front of Ottoman centre) and I have completely re-modelled the Serbian army (reduced number of Serbian knights, more mercenary knights and Serbian cavalry instead and more variety among the foot troops).
