convoys in 2.0

Tried the manual first before posting.

Convoys in 2.0 have a movement of 12 when I mouse over the convoy. But in the game they appear to move 16 hexes. Is the number of hexes they can move a random number, or is it a new fixed number of 16?

I believe at start of its turn convoy move 5 hexes in totally random direction (to avoid sub ambush), and then move 12 hexes in its original direction.
Sometimes this directions may be the same, effectively increasing convoy total speed. Sometimes opposite happens.

It is possible Conv have ASW?.Not initially.Attainable with ASW research or since in WiF ( it depends of year ).

The subs have a hard time from 1942 due to good ASW on destroyers and strategic bombers. If even the convoys get ASW then the subs will less useful than they already are.

The convoys are merchant ships and they had virtually no ASW.

Towards the end of the manual on page 434 I found,

"Convoy movement has been updated to include a random avoidance phase at
the beginning of a convoy’s movement that will move the convoy 3 to 5
hexes in a random direction if the convoy is greater than 17 hexes from its
final destination. This movement can either be in the direction of its
destination (which would decrease the time it would take for it to get
there), in the opposite direction or somewhere in between."
