Hi,

what do folks use for terrain?

I imagine felt cutouts (greens for woods, browns for rough, blue for lakes, etc) are an easy way.

Where does one find the best price-for-look terrain pieces?

Painted armies will cool terrain floats my boat and sucked me in, so I'd like to ensure I do my bit for a battle.

For nice looking and practical to transport I'd suggest the Miniature World Maker rubber terrain - a quick Google will find it. Based in Oz.

What nation are you in, that would help us direct you to someone cost effective.

I'd recommend 'Miniature World Maker' http://www.miniatureworldmaker.com.au/. They are very good and reasonably priced and built with FoG in mind. They are in South Australia, so you're also benefiting from decreased mailing charges and get to support a local group.

Checked our MWM -- awesome stuff but I quickly filled a shopping chart and had to log off before i required one of my kidneys to make it's way to eBay. Too many options. Addictive site!

Hope I don't get virtually burned at the stake for this suggestion, but I think it would be helpful to visit a model railroad shop and check out their layout, and the "how-to" books for sale. Many of those RR guys are incredibly skillful, but it's not rocket science and you can make stuff for vastly less than buying it. It's also very rewarding after you get good at it to bathe in the admiration of your friends who struggle at gluing lolly sticks together!
I was once pretty keen on the "RR thing" but the wife threatened divorce over the issue, so I caved.
