Please allow Saved Games in the Demo

It is my opinion that when you do the demo for Commander-Europe at War you should follow the model you used on Chariots of War where, although you have a limited number of turns, you can save the game. Then when you reach the end of the demo you can immediately pay for the game, activate it and continue playing. What a great marketing tool!

I find demos with the save feature disabled to be an annoyance, since I rarely have the time to sit down and play for 3 hours or 100 turns or whatever in one sitting. This makes it difficult for me to really get a feel for whether or not I will like a game. This is one of the reasons I have not purchased Strategic Command II (the other being the reports that the weak AI made single player an unsatisfying experience) and am dubious about purchasing Making History. I might however pick them up once they hit the remainder bins.

Thank you for listening to my rant. :) :)

Is there any decision as to how the demo will look like? Will one, as the OP suggested, be able to start the demo, buy the game and continue demo-began game?

For the record after many patches SC2 AI is one of the best I've seen in a game of this type.

We have decided our demo policy yet. We'll let you know when we have :)

This sounds as if the game/demo weren't to be out as soon as I hoped...

Borsook:

Thank you for the information. Since Strategic Command 1 is a lot of fun, perhaps I will try Strategic Command 2 while I wait for Commander-Europe at War.

And SC2 will get an expansion this summer. It looks really good, but CEaW seems to have a much superior technology aspect. Anyway SC2 should have an updated demo too if you want to check it out.

We don't want to enforce strict rules on teh forum, and we don't mind discussion of other games but please keep them to the general discussion forum. This is the Commander EaW forum. I expect any SC2 discussion to move there :) Thanks!

We dont have plans for a demo at this stage. Maybe we will release one after the dust settles, but it has yet to be decided.

MY thoughts on a demo.

A demo is a taste, nothing but a taste, and only a taste.

A demo is never something that should be considered "the game Lite".

I was immediately grabbed by the SC demo. I think it took less than 5 minutes actually. The game ran for several turns and then poof it ends. Then it's either time to make up your mind, or you just have to buy the thing if you want more, or glean your responses from forums discussions.

Saving a game in demo mode might be cool to some, but it's also a door Slitherine might not want opened.
It's like players buying the ASL starter kit, and deciding to elect to just play it, and then asking for scenarios included in the Journal, when they fail to remember, the Starter isn't meant to be a game, it's just a demo, a tool to explain what the real game is about.

And seeing as I am well known for discussing it, I will mention it. A save feature is only going to make a hacker's job easier. Screw the hackers, let them do ALL the work if they must.

Wargames likely live or die in an even shorter initial sales time span than mainstream. There simply isn't that many of us called wargamers out there. Thus, if you are interested, get out there, read the forums, play the demo, and then get on to it eh, decide, do you like the game, or not :)

Fish or cut bait guys.

And if the demo is a while in coming, all the more reason to get out there and read the forums. Come on, get used to locating the guys that play the games you like, read their thoughts. If they like it, and you like their reasons, chances are you are going to be happy with the game.

Expect there to be at least someone that "might" have some manner of computer permutation that "might" give them trouble. It's the nature of the beast. But, don't live in fear it has to be you. I have a mundane computer, and mundane conditions, but I am also used to playing the more demanding stuff on the market too. That likely describes your machine as well.

Demos are ok, but solid input is likely better.
