Question about Map Strings and design

Hello to all. I have been working on my first custom scenario map and I have a couple of questions. First of all, there is a command in the Scenario Editor in the Edit column called "strings". I can find nothing on it in the manual of the Scenario editor except that it is mentioned to do the validation check and "do not pay attention to map strings if they show up, only fix the errors before proceeding". My map is 49X49, as big as I knew how to make it on the Scenario Editor and although it had no errors, it gave me a long list of hexes that meeded to be "strung".
I am guessing this means to connect these HEX sections of the map together so it will be intact and whole. How do I do this? Also is it possible to make an even larger map than 49X49? If so, how do I go about doing that? I would like to take all the Eastern Front maps and combine them, making more to eventually encompass the Eastern Front entirely.
And finally, in designing maps, I have found a strange fascination to put in lots of terrain details. It looks beautiful if I do say so myself, BUT when I look at the maps in the PcZ Data folder, they are much more simple and not nearly as visual as the ones I have made. Am I putting "too much detail" on the maps if they are very much more detailed than the standard maps in PcZ? I don't want the map to take away from the game and the play when you are playing the game on the map.
Surely I do realize the maps are vastly scaled down versions of reality to real world maps, but I'd like them to look nice in any case and have more detailed terrain features than the game maps.
Thanks in advance.
