Hello,
I need something from Empires of the Dragon to fill yet another gap in my FOG selection.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Probably looking for a chinese army but will consider anything.
Thanks
Matthew

I think Ming could be a goer (its what I would do if I was looking for another 15mm eastern army).
It has the added advantage of been an army you can also use for FOG R and I quite like the look of the Old Glory range for it.
If the proposed V2 changes stay similiar to what they currently are they will also be something of a boost for the army overall.

Depends what else you have Matt, and what you may want to reinforce. You could take one of the Western/Arab types that could help build other armies, or a Muslim Indian type that has troops for many other army uses.

I've done well with Xi Xia
Several people like the Koryo Korean
Both of those are basically lancer cavalry with MF infantry that can help push light enemy mounted.
The Waring States are popular and viewed as a solid army.
I think it is a Western Han that is the prefered Shooty Cav army in the list.
Early Tang and Western Wei have some options.
After that you start to move to outliers
Nan-Chao has some appeal, but I haven't found a version I like
Most the Japanese seem to have underwelhmed people.
Rajput or Muslim Indian have some appeal.

Thanks all for your input
I like the Ming historically but am somewhat put off by the compulsary average cavalry. Although the crossover to FOG R would be good.
Muslim Indian havent looked at yet but will give it a try.
I like the Xia Xia and the Koreans too although haven't seen any figures for these. Do you just use simmilar period Chinese figures?
Thanks
Matthew

I believe Tibetans are thought to be the best figures to use for Xi Xia cavalry at least.

Hi Matthew,
I'd suggest narrowing it down by 'what do I already got' and pick something different.
For instance, I love the Vikings and I love the Hoplites... so have two predominantly spear armies and sometimes feel that it's a bit wasteful. If I had my time again I would pick something totally different for my second army... so now I'm building my 'third' army as a 28mm War of the Roses.
If you have everything - I'd suggest Ghurid... it's an interesting army.

What pain would that be? The "unbeatable Ghurid" pain?
Who's winning our competition again?
Oh, the Ghurids!
In all seriousness though, I think it's a good army... it just needs a constant supply of 5's... which I happened to get against Mr Newly-wed.

I have played Northern Dynasties.
Superior Cv/Ct Armoured Lancers
Superior Cv Armoured Bow
Lots of LH
A decent MF Armoured Heavy Weapon unit
At least 2*8 Poor HF DefSp (that are not so easy to break)
a couple of Poor LF Archers
Very agile and manouverable, can amass large number of Cv on a flank and overwealm it while the Cv Bw and LH skirmish and deny the other flank
Can contest a rough terrain with good possibility of success.
All in all a fun army to play with

Hi,
I have been using the Ming in both FOGA & FOGR with some success especally against historical opponents. As the army can be used with both rule sets with only a few additional troops needed for FOGR it may be worth a look.

Hi MatthewP.
Alain Toulier does some nice Koryo Koreans.
It`s in French but easy to follow the website. Orders arrive fairly quickly too.
