It would be nice if the medals (iron crosses) would have an effect on the heros you get, e.g. the chance of getting a better (+3) hero is inceased by every medal (I do not know if this is actually the case at the moment).

Don't think this will work because the medals are required for heroes. I would suggest that the player get a small prestige bonus when a medal is awarded. It will also be nice if we get a medal review screen which displays all the medals from the core army and indicate when awarded.

Prestige bonus will upset the balance of the game.

Look up Medals and hero's and medals. You will then understand how it works.
