Play-Test ??“ Non-Shooty vs Shooty
To try out a non-shooty army vs a shooty army, using the proposed modifications to the shooting rules, I used Medieval Aragonese, Ned used Ottomans.
The modifications are:
1) The -1 CT modifier vs shooting is for 1HP2B instead of 1HP3B. (Close combat remains -1 for 1HP3B)
2) MF shoot with 1 dice per 1st and 2nd rank base at effective range.

Total 12 BGs 804
Assume the Aragonese were facing south. The terrain consisted of some assorted rough going on the west side of the table (with gaps), and a village near the middle of the Ottoman deployment area.
The Ottomans deployed mostly on the west side of the table, with a solid infantry centre from west to east of Janissaries, Voynuks and Spearmen. The Qapu Khalki cavalry were on the western end of their line. The eastern end of their line consisted mainly of light horse and foot. The two large BGs of Timariots were in reserve.
The Aragonese deployed, from west to east, Jinetes, Almughavars in rough going, 2 BGs of men-at-arms screened by (poor) crossbowmen, 2 BGs of defensive HF spearmen. The military order men-at-arms and another BG of (poor) crossbowmen were in reserve.
Moving first, the Aragonese advanced rapidly with their feudal men-at-arms and spearmen. The almughavars remained, for the present, in the rough. The jinetes zoomed eastwards to support the spearmen against the Turkish lights. The military order men-at-arms and their supporting crossbows zoomed west to take on the Qapu Khalki.
To cut a long story short, one BG of men-at-arms charged the Voynuks and Janissaries, routed the Voynuks but had to rally back from the Janissaries. Meanwhile the Qapu Khalki cavalry decided that discretion was the better part of valour and retired in front of the military orders, leaving the flank of the Janissaries exposed. Shooting by the Janissaries, despite 1 dice per 1st & 2nd rank bases and re-rolls, was ineffectual. Next time the men-at-arms charged them in the front and almughavars in the flank, which proved fatal. The Qapu Khalki were then caught between the pursuing men-at-arms and the miltary orders, and crushed.
On the eastern end of the battlefield, the 2 BGs of timariots came up to support their lights, and were faced off by the 2 BGs of defensive spearmen. These charged them rather than put up with being shot at repeatedly. This happened 3 times with the timariots breaking off after the melee phase. Eventually the spearmen were ground down and broken.
The survivors of boths sides then lined up against each other and the Aragonese were victorious ??“ routing 6 Ottoman BGs with the loss of 3.

So as not to make it too easy to resist enemy shooting, I did not bring an IC, nor Armoured foot. However, I had deliberately brought my foot in BGs of 8 bases to minimise vulnerability to shooting. This was noticeably effective. The -1 for 1HP2B instead of 1HP3B also saved them on several occasions.
Shooting by the Janissaries was able to be trivialised despite them getting 2 full ranks shooting at effective range, and they were defeated in close combat.
The main reason I tried this match-up was to have ???the boot on the other foot???. I usually use shooty cavalry armies, and I wanted to see if I felt disadvantaged. I can truthfully say that I did not feel at all disadvantaged overall, the Aragonese were fairly easily victorious, and the shooting by the MF Janissaries was far from over-effective against a resolute attack.
(I should mention that I rarely defeat Ned normally, so the relative quality of the players was not an issue).
