If the target is not engaged already, it will simply turn to face in the maneuver phase and there are no extra POAs in melee.
If the target was already in melee then it will turn bases to fight the new charger and will have the additional penalty of ' - fighting in two directions'.

Exactly. So there is no more bonuses. Funtionally you have gained a lot as your opponent is not disrupted and if you won the impact pahse coudl be far worse. Flank attacks are actually pretty effective, but not guaranteed.

Yes, I had some light foot archers charged by some light foot javelinmen with a general once. Naturally I evaded, but was caught in the rear.
I won the impact combat and killed his general which then caused the unit to rout and another unit to disrupt. Only happened once, and high on the luck stakes, but it can happen. In hindsight he probably shouldn't have put his general in the front rank, but that would have not changed me winning the impact combat!

I think this meant to say IS disrupted.
A flank charge is an impact thing. But the consequences of what happens in the impact can have a big melee effect.
- the LH hit in flank will be disrupted, so will lose dice in melee.
- they are likely to lose the impact, so may drop to fragmented and/or lose a base.
They will then fight in the melee with the same points of advantage but less dice, so are likely to lose.
If they were also fighting to their front, there will be a -POA for fighting in two directions.

Well we played that wrong, Kal! Now we know! Nice job flanking me though!

Next week I will have my revenge!!!! The legions demand it!
