Hello,

Having been reliably informed that there are no rules for ancient sieges (nor are likely to be), I wondered what rules could be improvised for an attack on walls. Do any of you have any?

Thanks!

Off the top of my head....

Every 40mm of wall is a "stand" of wall.
Have a normal combat with the wall. The wall gets one dice.
Roll for normal "loss of stand" at the end of the combat. A loss of a stand creates a 40mm gap (15mm scale).

Light artillery is POA (+) against Wood or Dirt fortifications and POA (-) against Stone or stone like fortifications
Heavy Artillery POA (++) and (+).

Other types of Weapons cannot hurt a wall.

That just scratches the surface as far Siege operations. Which basically fall in three categories on the offense.
Reduce: Which the off the top solution above is just one example. Rules for Mining and Counter Mining, Battering Rams, and other tools of the trade (greek fire, flaming arrows etc) in the Reduction Category.

Scale: Rules for Siege Towers, Ladders, Scaling Ropes, and numerous other “over the top” solutions would be needed.

Surrender: Most of these tactics would fall outside of a FOG game. Disease, starvation, trickery would mostly not be modeled in a table top game but would likely need to be address on pre-scenario set up.
