close defense modifier and terrain

Do hills and countryside terrain evoke the close defense modifier for armor when infantry/cavalry is attacking it?
Hills yes.
Countryside no.
The 'terrain' tab in the in-game library provides details on all terrain and whether or not they cause infantry to invoke the 'close' attributes.
