Cannot Load Existing Game in GS 2.0

I successfully installed GS 2.0 (CEAW 1.12 GS 2.0, removed previous version of GS) and was playing the 1939 campaign game in GS 2.0 until about mid 1941. Everything was fine.

I started the game up last night, went to Load Game, tried to load the saved game, and received this error:

"Exception - this game was saved in a previous version of the game and cannot be loaded."

It was running beautifully until that error appeared. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!
Rick

This can happen, for example, if you try to load a PBEM game as hotseat of a single-player game (i.e., one against the AI) as a multi-player game.

So there's no way to continue playing my saved game?

That's not what I was trying to say ... sorry for any confusion. My question is are you trying to load your game in another mode than it was saved? If not, try clicking on the game file and loading it that way.

Yes, I am loading the game in the same mode as the original game. I'll try clicking on the save file itself.
Thanks for the great mod!

i'm also having the same problem with this error message. Both myself and opponent are using 2.0 and I get the same error message when i try loading the PBEM turn.

Are you and and your opponent both using the official (i.e., non-beta) version? Is this the first turn or have you been able to play any turns before?

I believe we both have the same version we were able to play several turns with the 39 scenario, but his #5 turn to me would not load.
We tried a different scenario by my sending him a 40 move, he was able to load it but when he mailed it back to me I would get the previous version error.
It appears he can load my turn but I'm unable to load his turn.

I am the opponent here.

we had 5 turns that worked fine (I play a mix of upgraded beta and 'bought' GS) depending on where I am in the world as I still can't get 2.0 and the beta to co- exist on my WIN 7 laptop.

I would guess that the first 5 turns could have been split accross both versions (upgarded vailla via beta and bought GS2 - Ian owes me as I hav ebought the game three times!) but I played the 1940 scenario turn only on my bought GS2.0.

Obviously i can't check if Wayne is loading the game corrcetly, but 5 successful turns does indicate that we have some kind of bug (and both my GS2 ersions work as I am getting my butt kicked accross multiple games).

cheers

GSv2.00 and the GSv2.01 beta are not compatible. That is, games played with one version cannot be loaded with the other version. Could that be your issue?

ah, they do work together

2.1.03 is the beta equivalent, I have hundreds of turns accross the two in more than a dozen games

thanks rkr1958 for your initial response; my wife (she loves it!) and I played for 6 hrs on hotseat on our very 1st game, then couldn't reload it so thought we'd lost it. I hadn't noticed the "load miltiplayer" option as an option to "load". A lot of text in this game doesn't have a very contrasting background.

Good deal! And having a wife that loves to play this type of game ... you're a lucky man! :D
