scenario editor help

I am just finishing the final touches on my first scenario and am playtesting it at the moment. I have noticed, however that the page that shows the scenario turn and win conditions shows that I have to hold the Italian mainland and scicily. This obviously refers to the campaign settings for the attack on the Italian mainland. How do I change this to put my conditions on. I have set the paramaters in the editor, but cant see where to change this.

Thanks

You also need a .pzloc file. The editor doesn't make this for you.
copy one and name to your scenario then make the changes in it.

That did not work for me. It still shows the Italy victory conditions even though I made the .pzloc file and put it in both the Scenario and Data directories. With all due respect, this should have been explained as part of the Editor Manual. Can someone at Slitherine explain how to fix this please?

Edit - Creating the .pzloc file did correct the Scenario description that comes up before the victory screen.

I am not with Slitherine but I have some experience with these files. The one below is from a custom scenario so it is in my My docs\My games\Panzer Corp\scenario folder. The ones I have for campaign custom scenarios are in the main panzer corps\data folder. Both have a scenario pzscn file of the same name.

Note that there are different fields for campaigns (_CAM) and scenarios (_SCN) in the file.

The i and b codes are italics and bold, of course.

Let us know how you go.

Code: Select all

IDS_SCEN_DESCRIPTION	Under Manstein's command, Paul Hausser's SS Panzer Corps attempts to retake Kharkov from an over-extended Soviet attack.
IDS_SCEN_AXIS_CAM_OBJECTIVES
IDS_SCEN_ALLIED_CAM_OBJECTIVES
IDS_SCEN_AXIS_SCN_OBJECTIVES	Decisive Victory: Control all Kharkov flags; all Russian escape flags; and all major towns, at the end of the game.
Victory: Capture and hold the Kharkov City Centre at the end of the game.
IDS_SCEN_ALLIED_SCN_OBJECTIVES	Decisive Victory: Hold Kharkov City Centre, counter attack and capture at least 2 Russian counter attack flags at the end of the game.
Victory: Hold the Kharkov City Centre at the end of the game.

Here is my file. It was copied directly from another .pzloc file and edited in Wordpad:

IDS_SCEN_DESCRIPTION Germans and Soviets meet on the steppes.
IDS_SCEN_AXIS_CAM_OBJECTIVES
IDS_SCEN_ALLIED_CAM_OBJECTIVES
IDS_SCEN_AXIS_SCN_OBJECTIVES Decisive Victory:
Capture all objectives.

Victory:
Capture at least 12 objectives.
IDS_SCEN_ALLIED_SCN_OBJECTIVES Decisive Victory:
Capture all objectives.

Victory:
Capture at least 12 objectives.

Same place as yours for my custom scenario. It does show the description properly but not the victory conditions.

It has to be the same name as the map and placed into the same folder.

I just tested your settings and they worked fine. Must be the file name - can you confirm that it is the same as the scenario file? e.g. filename.pzscn and filename.pzloc

Yup it has the same name and is in the same location. Is the file only read once at the start of the scenario? I moved it there after stating my game.

Try starting a new game and see if it works. As I say, the text you have above, when put in a pzloc file, works fine for me. Normally any changes made during a commenced game will not affect it - it must be restarted.

I'm giving up for now. The scenario description shows correctly but not the victory conditions. That makes no sense to me. The scenario is supposed to last 50 turns, and it does show that when you start the first turn, but my multiplayer game ended after 5 turns so it must be using the wrong victory conditions somehow. In addition to that my paratroopers at an airfield would not get on transports and my opponents infantry in a city would not load onto trains even though I allocated both trains and air transports in the scenario. Thanks for the help but there are just too many problems and too little time for me to sort out whether it's something I did wrong or editor bugs that are the problem.

This is a known bug - you didn't do anything wrong in this part. Paratroopers just sit there or if you start them on a plane they just fly around and never drop.
:(

This is incorrect.

Elmo is referring to a MP game. The AI can not use paratroops but you can in MP.

If the airport does not have a flag you can not use it.

My bad.

I took "my opponets" as meaning "AI"..... Anyhow - it is a known bug - just not in what Elmo was reffering too.

All my airports have flags in the scenario. My opponent could not use rail movement either even though I allocated trains in the scenario. I did not try it before the scenario ended but will test it later. Do you need to somehow place trains or air transports on the map to use rail and paras? I assume not and they do show up as available when mousing over the Embark/Disembark button.

We did sort out the reason for the scenario ending early. He had the required number of objectives and I had failed to put any kind of turn limit for when the conditions can take effect. Back to the drawing board.

train and air transports work.

You can only embark or disembark in a city for trains.

What is the date of the scenario? Maybe the air transports are not available.

Scenario date is June 1, 1944. I have 5/5 rail and 20/20 air transports but neither work. The button is always grayed out.

Edit - Something is odd about the rail lines in my scenario. They show up in the city hexes in normal map mode but when I look at them in the editor mode the cities do not show rail lines and I can't add them either.

Sounds like you didn't read the directions concerning the editor.

Use terrain features to lay RR not tiles, rails.

Yes I read the editor manual but this is my first try at a scenario. Sorry we're not all immediately experts like you. Thanks for the part of your answer about using features instead of tiles.
