I made a small (testing) scenario; it has most of the terrain types – but no rivers of any kind. I was surprised to see that the AI choice in spending the very few prestige points I gave him was on a Brückenpioniere...........
........ No rivers on the map but let’s build a bridge anyhow.

That's hilarious. A very artificial intelligence.

One reason might be, and it was something I was surprised to find out about bruckenpioneres, is they have the highest GD of any German infantry, 10 vs. 8 for the best of the rest.
