Reassign Core Units

I'm new to the forum, so Hello!
I've never been a fan of Panzer General or hex-based wargames in general, but after playing PC for a few days I just realized what I've missed :). The game is fantastic in its apparent simplicity. Also, I respect the courage in the decision of going with very well made 2D graphics instead of 3D. Spot on!
Although PG was never one of my favorite games, this doesn't mean that I didn't played it. This brings me to my question regarding a feature that PG had and, it seems, PC doesn't: reassigning/selling your core units. I've noticed that the only way to change one of your units is by upgrading and this is somewhat limiting.
For e.g: in the first mission in Poland, I wanted to sell the fighter/bomber and buy a Stuka tactical bomber. In this case, let's say that the cost of upgrading is about the same as selling and buying. But what if I want to sell a tank, in order to get more prestige for a fighter?
Another e.g, I know that some PG players sold a bonus unit, received after a brilliant victory, in order to buy something more useful (sell a TK to get a normal Tank).
Any chance of having something like this implemented in future versions?

But only in the deployment phase....disbanding mid scenario gives you 0 prestige back

@Dreadwing, I highly recommend against disbanding your Me110 (it comes in very useful since it can assist your fighter to take down enemy planes). You have four open Core slots for Poland: I usually buy 2 artillery and 2 Stukas. Also, you will get bonus units in the future (called SE units; up to 3 can be obtained). You do not want to disband these. They are special units that don't take up a deployment slot (giving you an extra slot). Upgrade them rather than sell them.

I agree, the Me110 fighter bomber is very useful, I'm upto Kiev now and I've just purchased a second just for that reason. Its also nice to have a tac bomber that isn't toast without fighter support

Thank you for the tips, but I've already progressed to the Low Countries. I'm playing on Lieutenant difficulty and managed to obtain decisive victories in Poland and Norway.
However, I didn't obtain a SE unit after Poland and I forgot to use the tiny exploit of loading a save game before receiving the victory. I've replaced the BF fighter/bomber with a Stuka so now my air force is 2 Fighters, 2 Strategic Bombers and 1 Stuka. I believe I'm going to pay a heavy price in the Low Countries as I see that the Allies have lots of air power.
My ground force is now made of:
-4 PZIVDs
-1 SE PZIIIF
-1 para inf (recruited in Norway for extra power up North)
-1 mountain inf
-5 pioneers
-5 artilleries (the new big guns you receive in this scenario).

Now I'm hoping for the best :).

buy 2-3 more fighters, u'll need them in the low countries. and one more tactical bomber if u have prestige, u'll need it to destroy their tanks.

Well, I've managed to obtain a decisive victory in the Low Countries, but one of my fighters was left with 1 strenght, while the other with 3 :). But I took your advice and acquired another fighter for France, even though you get 2 auxiliary.

better to have more fighters than you require just to get more experience, sea lion 40 is very tough scenario if you don't have necessary air power....

I have enough prestige to buy more fighters, but I'll need to find a balance with my ground force because of the limited core slots. Anyway, I have a save game and I will try to win the scenario with more air power, while relying on the experience level for tanks and infantry to compensate for the lack of numbers.

You need 5 fighters in all scenarios between France and USA to have air supremacy - Russia doesn't have good air power so you don't need another fighter. But USA is a very different story and u should buy at least two more fighter in those scenarios.

I never had any problem with prestige on my '39 - '45 campaign (default diff) and that's because I took advantage of achieving marginal victories where it was possible - destroy every enemy's unit, capture every city u can for extra prestige. That's why I was able to have massive army, all units upgraded to the best models possible with lots of experience. USA was a piece of cake because of that :)

Thanks SardaukarCRO, following your advice I'm now in Operation Barbarossa with a healthy air force of 6 fighters, 1 Fighter Bomber (Switched back from the Stuka) and 3 Strategic Bombers, all with good experience.
Prestige is not a problem, but as I said, I'm playing on Lieutenant difficulty.
I'm now aiming for Marginal Victory in order to get to Kiev - Moscow 41 - Stalingrad - Kursk - Moscow 43.

In the US scenarios I even upgraded my fighter units to 8:

4x Me-262
4x Ta-152

Additionally I switched my three Stukas to Dornier 335s, because they are good fighter bombers who can attack enemy level bombers without serious losses as well.

As level bombing backup I used two Ju-188 (upgraded Ju-88s with 13 and 14 units), which were totally capable of destroying most of the enemy battleships and surpress entrenched units.

I played the campaign on "General" and especially the P-47 Thunderbolts and the P-51 Mustangs are pain in the ass, when it comes to big air to air battles.

Cheers,

Noted.

In Barbarossa, I've upgraded the strategic bombers from Ju to Dornier (much more powerful and even greater autonomy).
I suppose that the Dornier 335 will be available during the US scenarios (after 1944).

Yep, Dornier 335s are available in 1945 scenarios. I think even in the Germany battles, when some of the eastern and western scenarios have been losses.

When you upgrade from Junkers to Dornier bombers, you have to spend much more prestige. If you stay in the "production lines" (f.e. Bf-109F/G switch to Bf-109K), it's much cheaper. But sometimes you are forced to switch types, especially for the Bf-109s, because even the K version doesn't stand a chance against Mustangs and Thunderbolts or even Lightnings. But in case of the Ju-88, it is still a good bomber until the Ju-188 is available.

But if you play on Lieutenant, you should have enough prestige to afford such costly transfers.

I switched to heinkel bombers as soon as they arrived, I think they have the best stats in comparison to other strat. bombers, good air defense and so on... :)
yup, they are expensive, but it's a well spent prestige.

Yep, the He-177 is great... but also very expensive. And the He-111 is weaker than the Ju-88.
