Bruce challenge: first battle - Carrickfergus 1315

After the victory at Bannockburn, Robert the Bruce wanted to open up a second front against the English. The O'Neills of Ulster responded positively to the offer of Scottis assistance to drive the English out of Ireland in return for Edward Bruce being recognised as the High King. And so Edward Bruce landed near Larne in May 1315 with Thomas Randolph, Earl of Moray and over 6,000 battle-hardened troops. They were soon confronted by local Anglo-Irish forces . . .
