Defense Scenarios

Two questions about scenarios.
1) I understand that the point of Blitzkrieg is more or less attacking – but are there any scenarios where the Germans are on the defense? Protecting what they have at the start of the scenario, instead of taking from the enemy.
2) If there are defensive scenarios – do you have the opportunity to build fortifications?

1. most of the scenarios after 1944 are defensive scenarios: for example battle of normandy and battle of berlin.
2. i dont think so.

2) No.

Thanks for the answers.
I sort of assumed the answer to question 1. But why is 2 “no”? Perhaps maybe not able to build them once the scenario is on its way (because the length of time to construct such things) but able to place them in the deployment phase might be reasonable.

That could be very unbalancing. Imagine placing 4 or 5 bunkers one after the other in a narrow pass. It would be unbeateable.
Fortifications need cautious and reasoned placement when editing or creating a scenario.

Agreed.
There would need to be restraints on it. Just like there are with other things in the deployment phase (can only place units in certain hexes, limit to how many units by prestige, etc.)
Possibly make a limit on the number you can use and a fair prestige cost as well – something along those lines.
But in my opinion, at some point defense is a key to war and should be incorporated in to the game in some manner.

or how many turns it would take to create one. But I'm not sure if this kind of mechanic could be implemented in the game.

The time scales we are looking at just don't make sense to allow bunkers to be built.
I wonder if we could start with a number of badly damaged bunkers (1 health) and allow the player to repair them, choosing which ones they wanted to build up. It might be the closest we could get to allowing you to place them. You'd still be limited but in a different way. We'd need to make them relatively expensive.

I thought about that. And that's why it might be best to only have it available during the deployment phase and not after the first turn of the game.

Also a good idea for this.
I think my point is that defense is part of war and a war game like PC lets you go in to the “what if” – so there should be something to see what would happen if the Germans placed a bunker here or there.
And I know you can go crazy in to the “what if” with the editor, but to have it as just part of the campaign flow would be nice.

Maybe it could be also interesting in terms of multiplayer.

Something I have yet to get in to (multiplayer) - but yes, that way the other play will not know what to expect.

Exactly, that's precisely in what I was thinking.

Game scale is 1 turn = 1 day. Not enough for building bunkers but it is perfectly possible to build field defences (trenches, antitank ditches, minefields) in a couple of days.

Hi, Im playing the campaign and I think a defence themed scenario would make a nice change of pace. Ive just played Sealion 40 and got a marginal victory in the last turn (took too long getting across the channel!). The text came up saying I had to withdraw and I thought to myself - shame that isnt a proper defence scenario. The fortifications idea from the previous post sounds cool. Maybe something to consider for future expansion.

Don't worry, there will be defensive MP maps made.
It's on my to do list.

If a player is given the possibility to place their units before a scenario starts, bunkers and pillboxes could be acquired and placed on the map.
Whoever wanted to purchase a immovable unit could do so. At an hefty price.

Hey, that’s what I said – more or less.
But I think it’s been lost along the way.
