Pistol VS Pike

Wanted to make sure I am both clear on this an right in my thought process here.
We play ECW so we both have armoured pistol mounted troops. In our last couple games we have had a few mounted VS pike and shot fights.
Now if I look at the POA's shot cancels better armour but pike does not so if the mounted are armoured pistol VS unarmored steady pike the Pike are even with the mounted since they dont get the pistol but would count better armour.
Then if the Pike go disrupted the mounted get the pistol back, and still count better armour so they would fight at a + VS the Pike.

If I am correct there then mounted actually have a chance against pike in pike and shot units.

Mounted have a chance.

It helps if the mounted are superior and 4 base determined horse and the foot are average.

In my case its 4 bases superior Cavaliers, but i had thought that there was just a slight chance that I only needed some 4's instead of all 5's. To put it mildly we have been doing it wrong till now.

It is indeed possible to have armour advantage vs his pike file.

There haven't been many horse vs pikes, but ya, it's easy to just blend it all together when the battle is raging!!! There were, when we were running early ECW, some armoured pikes vs unarmoured pikes, but you did your best to keep your pikes away from mine.

heck last game I forgot my one shot unit had no pikes, later ECW Royalists with commanded out shot, and forgot to roll 6 dice for shooting instead of 4 for about 3 turns.
