Embark Issue on Norway

I had a lone infantry unit in a port city that also had a rail connection. I wanted to put him on a train but he would always be put on a sea transport instead.
I was careful to ensure I had a train available for him to load to. I also checked the hot keys to see if rail embarking was a specific command but did not find anything there.
Is there a way to force a unit to embark on a train instead of a sea transport?

i think that u can't put the unit on the train .... if the rail transport is available, it would ask you how do you want to transport the unit.

Unfortunately it does not prompt me as to which type of embarking I would like to do. It selects sea transport without providing an option to select railroad. What am I missing?

There may be a limit of how many rail transports you can have. Did you have others out there at the same time?

Did you have a good look it's a railway and not just a road? Speaking from experience.

Hmm. Pretty sure if I had another unit on a train it shows "Railroad 0/1" and I confirmed last night I had "Railroad 1/1". I check to see if I have someone on the train somewhere else on the map.
Also pretty sure it had train tracks (that would be quite embarrassing if it didn't).

I've seen that in Norway too.
Instead of giving you the option to choose, you just get put into sea transports.
So in Norway I gave up trying to rail from coastal cities and just rail from inland cities.

To clarify:
Does the game offer the choice of rail or sea transport when both are available?
- or -
Does the game always put you on a boat before even checking the availability of rail transport?

Yes you have a choice as long as you have not used up your transports.

I don't think that's right, Razz. In my experience (Australia scenario, for example) the AI always puts units in a sea transport when a port has a rail link, too. It's very annoying and something I've raised (can't remember where - beta?).

Could you please take us step by step through the procedure, explaining exactly how you do it so we can see what we have missed?
Specifically, what do you do that ISN'T clicking on the Embark button (which puts you on the boat with no questions asked)?
Thank you very much.
