Bombs - What's the point?

So, I see that bombs are allowed to the Buccaneers. I decided to look them up, since I never even noticed them before.

The only POA they offer is against Battle Wagons (well, negate the -)? Not even anything against troops in fortifications? That was the most common use. Is that an error? Seems like they would be useful for storming the governor's coastal batteries. :)

It also would have been cool if European armies of the late 17th c. could have formed Grenadier detachments to storm fortifications. Oh, well.

There might be a reason I don't understand but I agree it does look odd and not match my understanding of their use.

Cool perhaps, but not very relevant on the scale of the game.

I always assumed that bombs caused a -1 CT like artillery. But are they defined as eitehr firearms or artillery? Don't have rules with me.

Bombs are Firearms but not artillery as far as I can see. (I can't see a specific definition of Artillery but will check.)

But what about their effect against fortifications?
