What are these chaps like? Amazon has told me that my book is on the way, but I can't wait! I'm quite keen to make them in 15mm scale. They are very romantic (in a horrible way, sometimes), I just want to see how they are covered in the lists. I especially like the latest version, when they have all the cavalry.

They have mixed pike and bow foot and some Lancers both as light cavalry and horse. I am excited about them as well because they can continue throughout the period of FOG-R through the Wars of Liberation fighting the Spanish and Chileans. This is one army that can gets lots of use.

Do the bow foot have heavy weapon? Curious how they went with that.

Interesting that the infantry spear is classed as a pike! Very curious indeed as to how they are depicted!!!

Must get the sculptor on them without delay....

Some of the foot are classified as light spear, but these would mostly be the Northern tribes that were overrun by the Spanish. As to the archers, some are bow only, while others have both bow and heavey weapon.

The fun part for scupltors are that you can occasionally use captured Spanish armor, helmets, swords and firearms with the figures. They used whatever they captured. So some figures with this equipment would make the army rather unique and imho extremely cool.

Got the book last night! The later army is certainly not your average Indian force.

Is it any good though? Would it be the type army people would game with?

European style pike blocks, but they can only get two POA. Pike blocks can have archers mixed in. (Don't have to.) There can also be separate archers* with heavy weapons. Some cavalry that are Horse with light lance.

Everyone is average and unarmoured.

Thoughts?

Must admit it is an army I fled past when the lists were originally being formulated being more concerned about the ones I was working on. I only looked at the list when this debate started. Having done so I really quite like it particularly with the hordes of cheap pike and the unusual amount of cavalry. If you make the figures then I would certainly buy and do an army although it is not a tournament tiger in my view. I do believe however it would give a few opponents a fright.
As an aside can we please have the rest of the Irish - cavalry etc as I have painted everything else I need and just need the missing codes to finish the army.

I am waiting for the painter to paint the Irish mounted so I can put them up for sale.

Thanks for the update. Will that include the mounted personality/command packs?

Yes, the mounted are:

1) Irish pistoliers (3 different poses)
2) Irish mounted command (3 different poses)
3) Owen Roe O'Neill command (same set but with different general model)
4) Dragoon nag and dismounted horseholder (two figures, to add to Irish calivermen as dragoons)

I actually have it all in stock, just waiting for the display paintups.

Excellent news - I will delay my order for other codes until these are ready.

While this thread has been sorta hijacked - I don't mind. I can't wait to see the Machupe cavalry. Add in the pikes and they seem kind of like Tupi but with other options as well. Seems very interesting. And again with the musket armed troops they can jump periods to fight against John Fletchers Liberation War figures as well.

I commissioned the Mapuche last night. They will be from the 17th century part of the list, so with the Horse. In the 17th C they had adopted different clothing styles, wearing short trousers and often a sort of poncho that was open at the sides.

We'll be making:

Pikemen
Archers
Archers with longcho quilquil (hockey stick from hell)
Cavalry lancers
Toqui (appointed warlord with ceremonial hawk-head axe)

That is great that you are making them for the later period. They are the ones that translate to the later periods that I am also painting troops for. My question is as follows... Are you making any with captured Spainsh equiment? or am I going to have to do some conversions?

Yes, some will have Spanish helmets or breastplates. (Most won't.). The toqui will have a morion and a breastplate.
