Must say I am very impressed with Panzer Corps, as an "older gamer" I remember the original well.

I am pleasantly surprised that the game appears to be about 98% the same mechanics as the old game, and the 2% that has changed is an improvement. Love the way you can overwhelm an opponent by massing several attackers against them, this is my favourite change in the game.

Anyone noticed any other positive changes?

I have noticed that sometimes when you upgrade equipment the cost is trivial whilst sometimes you have to pay the full cost. Does anyone know what the rules are for when this applies?

The only problem that I personally have had is with the screen resolution, my eye sight is not very good and I have a high res 24" monitor. I found playing the game at it's highest resolution everything was so tiny I could not read the numbers etc even with the screen "zoomed in". As such I have dropped to about 1200 X something resolution which is well down on the maximum but it seems to fit the screen much better as wel as easier to read. Any chance the highest resolutions could be laid out with slightly larger fonts and images etc to make it easier to see? I realise this may only affect me in which case it is not worth worrying about.

Overall I am REALLY pleased with Panzer Corps.

the cost is the difference between
Elite and regular;regular you loose XP less cost,Elite they keep their XP at improved cost
and yes i did beta and still i bought it i really do like it ,they did a polished job

Biggest improvement is imho the UI. It retained the flair of the old PG but it so much more user friendly and offer so much overview it's astonishing. I love how you can easily compare the unit stats using the comparison bar or the whole upgrading/buying interface. It so easy now to briefly compare different units against each other.

The game mechanic offer some surprises as well. In PG initiative was king as whichever unit got to shot first it dealt the full damage so the opponent often did not get to shot back at all. Now the initiative difference is playing a role. You need to have a lot more initiative for your whole unit to shoot first else only part of it get to damage the enemy before it can shoot back. This leads to a lot more interesting fights and forces even more cooperation between different unit types.

When you upgrade withing the same models you pay the difference in price. For example if you upgrade a Panzer IIIE to Panzer IIIF you only pay the difference in price. If you want to upgrade it to Panzer IV you have to pay the full price. Withing the infantry it's not quite so obvious but you can upgrade die standard infantry to grenadiers for only the difference between them both while the upgrade o pioneers costs the full amount. I guess the developers had to draw a line somewhere here too.

I like the way that in this game your troops and tanks always seem to take a few niggling casualties, whereas in original PG, your heavy weaponry troops would often blast enemy infantry clear out of town with no losses. I used to be able to go a few turns into Moscow with almost no casualties, its more realistic now. I also like the way AA and tac bombers have been toned down a bit, original PG seems a bit hyper manic by comparison. Artillery still seems too dominant to me and predictably causes lots of heavy supression, though less kills.
I also like the delay in production at towns and the way you have to value your units in Panzer Corps, rather than feeding hordes of mass produced pz jaegers into the slaughterhouse. I miss being able to buy the odd heavy tank or lynch pin gun in hotseat games though (just can't afford them).
Overall Panzer Corps seems a bit more refined

That isn't new. In Allied General and the Windows 95 version of Panzer General you could produce a new unit after owning the city for 3 turns
