2-Button Mouse Interface & Unit Stats

When the mouse interface is set to 1-button, left click is used for selection and orders. Right click lets you see a unit's detailed stats. I strongly dislike this mouse mode because one slightly missed click can ruin everything. I find it especially troublesome when I try to select an air unit while I have a ground unit selected that can move into that hex, and I'm used to RTS games where right click is used for orders and left click is used for selection.
Fortunately 2-button mode fixes this. But then I can't right click to see a unit's detailed stats. This didn't seem to be a problem at first, but once I played the last tutorial mission and put my units into naval transports, I realized I had no idea which ships contained which units. Without being able to check the unit card itself, I don't see any way to know. This seems to be a minor oversight but it really frustrates play with 2-button mode when undertaking any major amphibious actions.
I'd like to see the middle mouse button open the stats pop-up box for a unit in 2-button mode, or to have right-click open it if no unit is selected, but if there is actually a way to see it currently, please let me know. Having to switch to 1-button mode just causes me to make repeated hair-pulling mistakes when trying to push my pieces around the map.
Thanks! And great game otherwise.
