2 BGs are adjacent to each other, in base to base contact and facing in the same direction.

Can they wheel away from each other?
e.g.
a b
a b

Hi there
Can you provide a little more information:
- Are the BG's both in the same army or is one yours and one your opponents.
- What are the 2 BG's as troop type will effect ability to do the move and possible pinning/charging considerations.
Thanks
Rob

The two battlegroups are members of the same army. The bottom diagram should be disregarded.
Battle group AAA wheels to its lefty. Battle group B wheels to its right.

So your query is;
'when these two friendly BGs wheel away from each other, is it permitted for the rear ranks to 'pass through' each other as will be required to complete the wheel?'
We've always assumed yes, provided the wheeling BGs do not end their move 'on top' of each other.
I can't find anything in the rules or clarifications about it but as i say we've always assumed this is allowed.

I have a vague memory of one of the authors confirming this. And that's how I always play it.
The battle group itself is not the "actual" formation of a unit, but simply the place-marker for a collection of smaller units grouped together (usually). They are not necessarily all crammed together in a line.
Also, the base depth is only there to fit the figures ... and is much deeper than a real BG of that frontage would likely be.

From memory there is a specific rule about being able to cut across one corner of a friendly BG to allow precisely for this situation.

There is no specific rule to cut across a corner. The authors answered a previous query that because the depth of each base is artificially too deep that it was okay for a temporary interpenetration of the rear edges of a unit conducting a wheel but the BG had to clear the interpenetrated unit at the end of the move for it to be allowed.

I'm not sure if it helps, but don't forget the 'shift to avoid friends' - it may help in this situation.

Discussed a long time ago and the answer is a definite yes they can.
