I've had no success using Strat bombers effectively. I bomb targets at 0-0 all of the time. I'm not exactly sure what the role of strat bombers is.

advice..?

Ship killers.

Against ground targets, they cause long term suppression, similar to how artillery guns work(don't cause a lot of direct kills). They also destroy ammo and fuel supplies of units they attack.

What is 'long term suppression' ? More than 1 attack following? I haven't noticed.

I didnt know that bit about destroying fuel and ammo. Good to know

Long term suppression means that some of the units strength points are not available, (suppressed), in any other attacks during the turn. If you look at the units strength after you bomb it, the first number is blue 7/10 The blue 7 means that three of that units strength points are suppressed, so they defend at 7 instead of 10. After the turn, or sometimes another attack, the suppressed points become available again.

They can also bomb a city to neutral, the national flag will turn white. No one can build at that city until it has been captured. Once they get some experience and reinforce up to 13 or so they can be rather deadly, especially against ships

JU88s are what you want for the Norway campaign. :)

Agreed 100%. They're the only way to keep the Royal Navy off your back... they also come in quite handy in the Sea Lion scenario. 8)

Against ships, as was mentioned, and great against AA to reduce their effectiveness so that other air can operate in the vicinity.

I find 1 or 2 Strategic bombers to be imperative. In fact, I always build and use one in the Poland scenario, and the Strategic bomber is critical for the Norwegian campaign (Operation Weserbufurubung or whatever it is called).

Buying a strategic bomber in Poland got the disadvantage of wasting some prestige as the JU88A is not available in Poland and the other two bombers got pretty poor naval attack so you got to upgrade it in Norway. Especially at higher difficulty level prestige tends to be in short supply so i prefer not to waste it. The small amount of experience the bomber can gain in the Poland scenario is way to small compared to the prestige costs of buying and then upgrading it.

Oh and btw. the invasion of Norway was called "Operation Weserübung" :)

Except, later in the war there is an especially sweet Heinkel to upgrade to, so it's cheaper the He 111 route from that standpoint. However, I don't buy the He 111 in Poland for that reason, I just like having a unit that can neutralize stuff.

You guys have also forgot to mention that level bombers can also remove prestige from your opponent.

I actually find this sometimes as a non-wanted feature against the AI, since if I am kicking ass, I actually WANT to see more Shermans and other allied JUNK to spawn on the field..

You are right in the very long term you can upgrade the HE111 cheaply to the HE177 (iirc) but you are stuck with the HE111 through a lot of scenarios and especially in Norway i like a bomber that can actually damage the Royal Navy a bit and that's something the HE111 can not really do due to his poor naval attack rating.

Also, as far as i remember , in Panzer General you used to inflict prestige loss on your enemy when bombing his cities .. is this the same in PC ? I haven't figured that one out yet.

I saw someone wrote they do indeed inflict prestige loss, how did you check on that ? Did you test the game ? I couldn't find that info.

EDIT: Duh.

Hit the L key after you bomb a Primary Objective City.
