What, if any, impact does a truck of half-track have on Gebirgsjäger movement? Does it reduce their off-road moves at all?

The rule of thumb is, a unit cannot go where its organic transport cannot go. So yes, adding a transport to Gebirgsjäger unit will impact their off-road ability.

Yeah... I did some testing.
With the HT:
Without the HT:
Quite a big difference... Makes my SE Gebirgsjäger with their fancy Half-Track feel kind of pointless. :-p

You can always upgrade them to a more useful type if you want.

I would, but I have about 850 prestige going into Norway, and that's before I full strength my units, buy a level-bomber or upgrade anything at all.
I have about 270 prestige I can spend on upgrades and then I still have one unfilled core slot. Changing the SE Gebirgsjäger to a Gren will set me back the full price for a Gren. Paying full price to upgrade from one type of inf to another is extremely annoying to put it mildly. I might as well just buy new units.
I also noticed that instead if rebuilding a PzIA that was reduced to strength 2 with 24xp, I could sell it for a full refund and buy a new one at full strength. Granted I lost the 24 xp, but I can live with that. :-p
Now, back to my spreadsheet to figure out if I need to sell my 88 and the SE unit to afford some shiny pioneers and PzIIIF's. (Probably going to be one or the other... Or replay Poland to see if I can get more prestige out of it.)

Elite units are valuable because they are always extra - they do not occupy a core slot. If you cannot afford an upgrade now, you can use them as they are. But of course, the choice how to use them best is always yours.

They don’t take up a core slot? I was wondering about that, so I tested with a save I had from Poland.
In my save with a SE unit I get 18/18 units to deploy and 17 in reserve. That’s with buying no units after the victory in Poland. I had no core slots left to fill by the end of Poland.
In my save without the SE unit I get 18/18 units to deploy and 16 in reserve. Seems to me the SE unit took one of the core slots…
Testing some more I found I could buy as many units as I like in the deployment stage, but I can still only deploy 18 for the battle. So I guess I could leave the SE unit in my “reserve” but I think I would rather have the 220 something prestige. The only difference between most of the SE units and regular units is +1 soft attack and -1 ground defense, which is a little bit underwhelming to say the least.

That is correct, you can have as many units as you want in reserve, but only deploy a certain number in each scen. However, after this number is already exhausted and you can place no more normal units, you still can place "elite" units on the map.

I see! That's good to know. And it makes my life even harder. :-p
Quick question: Is capturing cities and objectives the only way to get prestige? Or do I get prestige for damaging and destroying enemy units as well? (At work so I can't really test this myself right now...)
Also, how much prestige do you guys expect a player to have after the Poland scenario?

Elite units don't take a Core slot during deployment, but just make sure to put them in before you get to the last slot. If you complete the deployment, then the elite units can't be placed. Since the elite units don't take up a slot, you should never sell them.
