Super units, and odd stats

Ok, Low Countries, playing in the middle difficulty, the 33rd Chass. Ardeen trounces a panzer III on a 7-1 battle, and makes any combat against them incredibly one sided (only have panzers advancing there). All movement on that road halts until i either bring a tac. bomber or some artilery.

Inspecting this lone infantry that can demolish panzers, i see the following stats:
Soft Attack: 5
Hard Attack: 6
Ground defense: 8
Experience: 23
(Entrenchment level: 4)

Screenshot bellow:

Then it hit me, they are truly a Belgium super-humans infantry division.
Look at the stats of my Elite Grenadiers in the same map(just about my best infantry division):
Soft Attack: 6
Hard Attack: 3
Ground Defense: 7
Experience: 91
(Entrenchment level: 3)

Screenshot bellow:

This random Belgium infantry has double the hard attack, 1 extra point of ground defense, all that for 1 less point of Soft Attack.

Thing that bugs me more, is that their anti-tank power is right there close to a Panzer IVD.
Panzer IVD:
Soft Attack: 8
Hard Attack: 7
Ground Defense: 6

Is this infantry division working as intended, or are their stats inflated for some reason?

I suppose that this unit is working as intended. I think the INF is placed in a key position to hold tank attack. I've killed it with bomber and INF.

Yes, its parked just in the middle of the only road, but if the purpose is to make a roadblock, i think i would prefer to have an AT gun + infantry division there instead.

Same scenario and level, a lone super-dingo kicks the crap out of 3 panzers...

Looks to me like some sort of special infantry... With lots of AT guns, MGs and mortars.

And according to wikipedia it's an Elite unit designed specifically to stop a German attack in Belgium. :-p

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ardennes_Chasseur_Regiment

So yeah, they are indeed a super unit.

That is correct, it was especially created to repulse Germans coming through the Ardennes and have some special stats

Ah, thanks for the confirmation? Perhaps granting them an alternate sprite, much like the "Elite" german units? (slightly darker sprite per example) Or having an AT support gun in the sprite. They really are a beast of a unit with 6 Hard attack.

Hmm, would it not have been better to simply give the Chasseurs a higher entrenchment value/more experiance than to equip it with imaginary hard attack values?

What will happen in a mp game where that unit is available for the dates the sceanrio is in , a player could buy as many as he wants/can afford

Not a big deal but somewhat surprised.

Checking one of the data files I believe that this "special" units are not available for normal MP games. But this is just a guess from me :D

Ah nice, I wonder then If we can create special units for scenarios, maybe units that cant reinforce or are not purchasable to highlight their uniquness;)

Actually no, this unit is available for purchase in the multiplayer or hotseat version of Low Countries.

There are special attributes "nopurchase", "noupgrade" and "noreplace" which you can use to create unique units.

Another factor in that battle outcome would be it is forested area. Therefore I think close defense values are used for the units in combat.

I suppose the early tanks have 1 or 2 close defense while the infantry probably has 4.
