Ambush - should it always be so

If a unit is not entrenched and only moved the previous turn perhaps this should be a meeting engagement and not an ambush? Also I think SCouting would have been much much better IRL so perhaps fog of war should allow greater spotting ability?

Ambush works good now. Higher visibility units like recon at 4 were considered and may change in the future if members feels there is a need for it.
I was thinking for Germany.. 222 = sight 4 as it's movement range is less and has wheels so mountain and hills and forest affect movement allot.

But how realistic is it that an advancing army always gets ambushed?

Well how realistic is it that an army is advancing without proper recon?

Don't get me wrong I think the game is really good, but things like scouting should be taken for granted to an extent I think. Yes Ambushes for long distance travel but perhaps on the shorter advances general scouting should meen more meeting engagements?

Ambushes are not much of an issue for a strong unit. In fact, they are a good way to get a tank or other strong unit to get 2 attacks in a turn: attack once then intentionally run into an ambush for a weakened enemy unit. Chances are the weakened enemy unit will be destroyed. Of course, that will use 2 rounds of ammo but may be worth it in some cases. Learned that one from Kerensky. Kudos.
