In the picture above Dave Rs light horse and light foot have charged. The LH have contacted two units of my light horse and the light foot have also contacted the LH on the right (only 3 bases left).

So the LH on the right are in contact with both the LH and the LF. My other unit of LH are in contact with his LH.

Who should fight:

1) Me: The 3 bases of the right LH unit and only 2 on the left hand unit.
or
2) Me: Two bases on the right hand unit and 4 bases of the left hand unit.

Also in either case do I get the choice to fight the LF rather than the LH with my unit on the right or does Dave?

The player with most bases in contact gets to choose which fights for Dave.
For you:
The left LH in melee gets its overlap, so 4 bases v 2. The right LH fights just 2 against his bases. Depends which you fight as they should fight as if conformed, but Dave's LH cannot

We reckoned that since they fight as if conformed, bob got three dice from the main unit + two overlaps and i got four dice + one overlap from the lf

If I understand correctly that the LF charged, shouldn't they have stepped forward into the LF unit to the far right of the picture as well?

They did - the lf on the right evaded

This photo was a turn after the initial hit, the lf had moved back up to shoot my engaged lf

The way the bases are positioned, as since you fight as if confomed i'd have thought the two 3 base LH would fight each other with the 4 base LH and LF as overlaps. But it's not always easy to see.
