Yes this is all part of our promotional activities for the upcoming release of Panzer Corps! The old icons were from nearly 10 years ago and way out of date so long overdue with replacements. The new icons are much better plus there are many more of them so you more quickly progress. There is no going back!

It's nice to know that we're all party members in good standing now. Remember, if anyone asks, you were just following orders ;-)!

If you're going with WW II theme, it might be nice to include some non-German avatars as well as the stereotypical ones.

You only get to play as the Germans in the single player campaign :)

I am sorry but I find it quite offensive to be given what is effectively a Nazi avatar. Hardly the best PR move on your part, I would have thought. Can mine be removed please?

Unfortunately not, there is only one forum avatar scheme, but you can be sure its nothing to do with the Nazis. They are not referrenced in the game at all as it will be released in Germany where anything related to that is banned.

Well, yes. Games programmers have to de-nazify the German soldiers in their games to get them published - but we all know what these figures represent. Frankly, I am astonished that you think it is acceptable to suddenly allocate this type of avatar to your customers. You surely must know that you run the risk of upsetting a certain proportion of them. In my view you have made a very poor decision. Will your company please re-consider this?

What do other people think?

I don't very much care one way or another but if asked I'll say...ugh!
The new avatars is not better. I don't like them and I miss the old ones
That been said, come Monday I'll be buying Panzer Corps :D

I'm sorry if anyone is offended - we didn't even consider this a possibility and have never heard of it before in any forums using these types of avatars. We will just have to accept you are offended. However we do not have any plans to change it back.

Ian,

You must be kidding! Foche Wolf's are cool and all, but I come here to talk about Ancients and find this change annoying and distracting. This sort of push marketing also demonstrates a fair degree of arrogance on the part of Slitherine. Sure, it's your forum, but it wouldn't exist without us. May I please have my old avatar back?

While I'm at it, we never wanted the feature where our wins against the AI are displayed and asked instead that our multi-player records be tracked. Is this ever going to happen?

Wow, I think things need to be put in perspective here.

This is wargame site and forum. Avatars are icons straight from the games that Slitherine sells, the latest being a WW2 game .

Nowhere in the Avatars do i see anything Nazi related and even the "ranks" given are generic , even English equivalents of Military rank, so no harm there either. Sorry, but i dont see any sturbammfuehers or feldcorporals here.

Even though i am on these forums as a fan of FOG (an ancients game) its just luck, as you will, that Slitherine was using avatar graphics from an ancients game, Legion, I believe, as opposed to say Commander WW2 or any other game for that matter. Now Its WW2 time I suppose.

That being said i would offer one suggestion: utilize the graphics from all nations in Panzer Commander, allied and German and randomise it, so you might have an Opel or a Ford truck, a Mark III or a Sherman etc ....

I'll add my twopenneth. I have no problem with German military units or whatever. I actually have an interest in WW2. However, I come here to play FoG, particularly ancients and I dislike the out-of-context icons and the cynical marketing push.

I don't have much choice it seems, but it does lessen Slitherine in my eyes.
