While playing the Overlord scenario I noticed an aircraft carrier? Was there an aircraft carrier at Normandy. I don't remember reading about one, but I couldd be wrong. If there was what was the name of the carrier? Thanks

Air surveillance from three escort carriers and RAF Coastal Command maintained a cordon well west of Land's End. Few U-boats were spotted, and most of the escort groups were moved nearer to the landings.
So at least 3 smaller escort carriers were present, but probably even more, and involved in operation Neptune, the naval part of Overlord. There were over 6000 vessels involved, so pretty tricky to find their names back. Escort carriers are aircraft carriers, smaller but still carriers.

My best guess is to contact the British National Historic Ships Register:

National Historic Ships
Park Row, Greenwich
London SE10 9NF

tel: 0208 312 8558
fax: 0208 312 6632
email: info@nationalhistoricships.org.uk

Or try

The Royal Naval Museum

http://www.royalnavalmuseum.org/index.htm

Or the Imperial War Museum

http://www.iwm.org.uk/

Last two I recommend, we consult them ourselves from time to time when doing research.

I hope you find the names!

Cheers,

And from a game play stand point, the problem of having no aircraft carriers or airfields to start with causes problems with 'redwash' and also incapacitates the AI's ability to use air forces properly.
