Any ideas for manufacturers of 17th century Russians? I know that Essex do a range, although from the shots on their website some look a little crude compared to other manufacturers, and they don't have any figures for the Reitary - it seems the range is aimed more at the early part of the century.

Rus 8 and one of the command pack figures have pistols so could possibly be mixed in to units for Reitary. Beyond that I would think that more western Reiters/pistols could be used for these as well since the Reitary were armed more in the Western style. There do appear to be Muscovite pikemen int he range besides Streltsi musketeers so this would help cover the later period pike and shot style foot as well.

Russian "Reiters" are truly a missing piece as no 15mm range I know accurately reproduces their apperance. While the Reiters made use of imported western firearms and armour this was mixed with Russian style equipment such as sabres and armour. The clothing was always in the traditional Russian style.

From these images, maybe Polish hussars, minus their wings and lances, would be a good basis?

Unfortunately that was the conclusion I had come to from looking at the (few) 17th century Russian ranges available - I was hoping that I was wrong. Maybe RUS 8 from Essex is the closest on offer, but they would then be all armoured and in mail, and I was thinking of mixing a couple of those in with some bow armed 'Traditional cavalry' for variety. RUS 8 also has a bow as well, so not ideal.

Would it be possible to do a torso swap? Cut a western Reiter off at the waist and stick him on a Polish hussar set of legs for example? Just a thought.
If you do it I would recommend drilling a wire through the legs into the horses body then leave excess to go into the torso to help with strengthening

I believe that in most civilised countries this is considered illegal but check with Dan if it is allowed in the US... :)

Frankenstein miniatures, if you can't find it make it. Much easier to do with soft plastic 1/72 scale by far but I have done it with lead 25mm figs too. My former life as a mad scientist creating figs that did not exist...
