This is good information.

I found that you get the same amount of prestige regardless of the strength of the unit you're disbanding (i.e. A 1 strength unit returns the same amount of prestige as a 10 strength unit). If you're willing to sacrifice the unit's experience, disbanding then buying a newer unit is probably more cost effective then upgrading the unit.

I may be mistaken, but I think the only reference to Disbanding a unit in the Manual is in the list of hotkeys.

Ahh, well that was hard to stumble across. I had disbanded somewhere earlier and did not notice any prestige increase so assumed there was no recycling at all.
