NAFF 2011 (finals will start on Saturday November 12th)

This is a new tournament that will take place in the autumn during a suitable lull between the LOEG seasons. You probably will have seen the thread "The Worst Armies in FOG" on the main forum where players are nominating the weakest armies that they have had the misfortune to use. You can carry on contributing in there and I will look at all the suggestions - but remember, allies do count towards an army's prowess.

The format of the competition will be very straightforward. Between now and the autumn we will sort out among ourselves which is the very worst army in each expansion pack (we will try and include Eternal Empire which is due out shortly) - and then those six armies will play each other once for a place on the "podium of shame". There will be 15 fixtures in all (so 30 player-slots) and games will be 500pts, FOW and DM on. Players will be able to volunteer for a number of slots (maximum will probably be 4) and I will be able to use the new LOEG rating system to allocate fairly even contests.

This competition is just meant to be a bit of a giggle and I will try to rope as many of you in as possible. And hopefully it will give players an excuse to try out some of the really dodgy armies that are rarely seen in competitions. Just one word on etiquette though. Forget all this "Enjoy the game" and "Good luck" platitudinous nonsense that we have to use in LOEG. Just a rousing yell of "Naff army!!" is all that is required (expected really) to get your battle underway.

EDIT

Provisional start date: November 12th

Qualifier from each expansion pack

SOA: Papal States

ROR: Bogus Numidians

IF: Skythians

S+S: Khwarazmians

LT: Picts

EE: Later Bulgarians

 I expect that player's instincts to win will prevail, but the bottom team in the table will be NAFF army of the year for 2011.

Have a look at "The Worst Armies in FOG" thread in the main part of the forum, Keith. The Granadines have been mentioned but they are quite difficult to fight in certain circumstances. The Papal States do not have much going for them at all, on the other hand.

Right then - daa-dah! The SOA representative at NAFF 2011 will be the Papal States army (aka "the Pope-a-Dopes"). :D

Next qualifying section to look at will be ROR.

Nominees for the ROR play-off are the Bogus Numidians and either the Suren Indo-Parthians or the Early Armenians.

Keith, do you want to play a paired game with me - Suren Indo-Parthians versus Early Armenians? Or would you like to wait until next week for the winner of these two armies to play against the Bogus Numidians? Anyone else is free to join in, btw. Just let me know if you want a game or two.

Result: Early Armenians 5 Suren Indo-Parthians 1.

So the final qualifying tie for ROR is the Bogus Numidians v Suren Indo-Parthians. Paired games, 500pts. Any takers please? TGM? Keith? Steve?

Why not have a few paired games and then review the results. It'll smooth out any luck and also the influence of the abilities of the generals.

I'll happily play in one of the games, feel free to assign me an opponent :)

Oh yes, Morbio - that is what has been happening already. You can play me if you like, password "morbio" - I'll put the challenge on in a moment.

Chris, you can play the next person who is interested. Keith and TGM have played with the Early Armenians in the qualifier so they may like to continue but if no-one else volunteers by Saturday evening then perhaps you could play both myself and Morbio in paired games? The resulting six games should be enough to decide the issue. Is that OK with you?
