First Game Report

Played our first game last night, Carthage vs Late Rep Roman, in 28mm (ex-Wabbers).

We'd both read the rules once, and watched half of one of Hammy's games.

We found it difficult to find things as we were going through the turn sequence, and a suggestion is a detailed turn sequence chart on a full page. This could include lots of info (with page no references back to the main rules). For example Gerry's (Carthage) Numidian LH charged my Cretans, who evaded and got away. Can the LH now throw Javs at the Scutari 1/4" in front of them? Should we put our Generals into combat with the BG's, and if so what effect does that have, and how can the general be killed?

I think a full A4 Turn sequence would answer many questions in a basic format, and refernce back for details. As mentioned elsewhere a section specifically on Generals, rather than having to look all over the rules.

Although a bit slow, nothing happened which we thought of as 'odd' and I think when we get used to it, the game will flow smoothly and quickly.

28mm WAB basing worked fine, with some magna-based sabots. My romans & scutari were both 3 to a stand, with the extra depth for the MF. The only problem is cavalry. Yoy cannot fit a modern 25/28mm cavalryman on a 40mm depth!

All-in-all very happy with the outcome, and looking forward to next week with different armies.

I think why the game played slowr than we expected was partly due to me still having my WAB head on and splitting the units within some of the BG's to much, which hindered my movement.

It did take us a while to find the bits we were looking for but I can see that with a few games under our belts the games will become much more fluid.

It certainly looked more like a real battle and I can't wait for next weeks game :D

Hmm, I might have to get my paint out and bring my plastics to the club :) I do actually have a lead 25mm Seleucid army too but that needs serious dusting and rebasing from 6th edition but I have loads of nice plastics from Hat and Zvezda that I would really like to get sorted out.

Look forward to it, Hammy.
