Historical bug: unsupplied Soviet units can become Guards?

In a game I'm playing as the Allies against Victor, a situation has occurred where an out-of-supply, cut off Soviet unit on the Baltic coast has become a Guards unit as it gains experience. Of course it will be eliminated pretty soon through out-of-supply step losses, unless a relief column arrives or the Gulf of Finland battleship is moved away from Leningrad and into a supply position. Perhaps the Guards designation should only be possible for Soviet units that are in supply. (Elsewhere on the map, another Soviet unit being supplied by sea -- supply level 1 -- has also become a Guards unit as it defends in the Crimea swamp against various Axis attackers.)

I don't think this is a big issue. When the unit is destroyed the guards slot will be available for another unit. I even think units out of supply can become guards because guards status is not necessarily better equipment. Soviet guards units were units with troops that had become battlehardened and thus more effective.

So I think we can let things be as is unless you want this to be changed.

I'm the Soviet player, so it didn't bother me particularly.

I met this situation several times when I play axis . This made me decide to kill them all as early as possible , otherwise , tif he recover ,it is too difficult to eliminate a guard .
