hawkeye 147 : First Impressions

I'm an old Panzer General player. Just played through the tutorial so far. Here are some of the things I wrote down whilst playing.
30 seconds
First impression very favourable - good initial presentation.
I went and looked at the library.
Are there going to be more units in the final library? Information and pictures were great.
Might have been good to have some game specific information as well - such as stats; which type of units it is good / poor against.
Problem. Manual - Overview option is blank.
5 minutes
All the old fun of Panzer General but updated. Very familiar but with nicer unit and map graphics.
Music very quiet compared against the sound effects - I (much) later found the option to change this.
I'm running a 1680x1050 resolution and found the briefing text a little small.
Liked the in game tutorial messages a lot - although some poor wording and typos.
15 minutes
Not sure if I am ever going to get used to the left click to select, right click for action!
Like the unit information icons for move / attack. Game seems to flow much better than I remember with Panzer General.
Surprised that ammo not brought up in the tutorial ... and then it is ... as soon as one of the units got low on ammo!
I found these action specific comments a good way of introducing and remembering features.
Struggling to remember what all the unit icons are. I'm constantly looking at the tool tips.
Can imagine that this would be quite overwhelming for someone new to this type of game.
I think I would have preferred to see the unit stats as a pop up in the main screen when moving the mouse over a unit instead of a side bar.
60 minutes
I'm used to the left click & right click thing!
At the start of a mission when buying many new units, it is slightly annoying that have to go back to the main screen after purchase.
Could you not make all the purchases and then place the units from the side bar?
On the bigger maps, finding it quite annoying that the map resets to the initial start city at the beginning of each turn.
Preferable if it started at the last unit clicked?
I would have liked the unit information panel to the right (health, ammo supply etc) to be bigger.
Having a lot of fun and still in the tutorial.
Performance
I have had no performance or crash issues at all.
My PC is :
Intel Core2Duo E6600 (2.4Mhz)
Windows Vista
4Gb RAM
320Mb nVidia 8800GTS
1680x1050 Widescreen monitor
Overall (so far)
Impressed. All the old fun of Panzer General but finding it easier on the eye and easier to play.
Found the tutorial to be very good.
A couple of hours have passed without notice.
