First game - Help!

Hi
I am playing my first FOG R game to get used to the rules and have a couple of questions that I would appreciate some help/clarrification with:
1. I am a bit confused by the bullet ponts on page 55 (General Movement Rules) that refer to 'troops in 1 base wide column' and 'roads always count as open ground'. Just what is the maximum move of a BG of mixed MI/HI, in column moving on a road while it is passing through a village?
2. Interpenetrations (page 67) - I have a foot BG of MI/HI (ECW pike and shot) in front edge base contact with the rear edge of a limbered BG of medium artillery (they just failed a CMT to unlimber). The combined depth of the guns and limber marker is 80mm, the normal move of the foot BG is 3mu's (75mm). My reading of the rules (last bullet point on page 67) indicates that the foot BG cannot interpenetrate the artillery BG because it does not have sufficient move for its front edge to reach the far side of the BG being passed through. Is this correct?
many thanks - Paul
