For cavalry against cavalry or plain horse is there any combat advantage to a two by two column against a four base line? Is it in the impact phase only? Do column if they charge first get to avoid overlap on on both flanks by charging to hit one end of the line?

No combat advantage for charging in a 2x2 formation compared to a single line. The single line can evade if they are cavalry and not lance armed though.
