Hi is it worth taking the carbine option? Less chance of hitting but get the death roll gunpowder effect. Their range is one inch shorter than bow so compared to bow if shooting at max ranges and evading horse or cavalry or det horse there is a higher chance of being caught. Average facing average at max ranges with bow there is 1/36 chance of being caught and 1/12 with carbine ie 3 times higher but still less than 10%

I'd take a mix. Then you get the advantages both of better dice vs horse & range, but if 50% of the shooting dice are firearms (even if they dont hit) then he doesnt get the +2 to death roll

Check your rules. That's the majority of shooting dice, or 1 more than 50% have to be firearms to do away with the bow penalty of +2 to death rolls.
