Could someone more experienced than I am please explain what the line '1 dice per 2 bases of 2nd shooting rank or at long
range' means when calculating how many dice Musket*, mounted with carbine, bow, or x-bow throw when shooting.

I understand that at short range the shooters would get 1 dice per front rank base and I read it that this means that at short range they also get 1 dice per 2 bases in the second shooting rank.

However I can't quite work how many dice they get at long range.

Do they just get the 1 dice for each 2 bases at long range and nothing for the front rank?

Thanks for any explanations!

At short 1st rank shot better, at long all bases shot the same (1 dice x 2 bases)

So if a battlegroup consisted of four bases of Musket* or X-Bow in two ranks they would get three dice at short range and two dice at long range? Is that it?

Yes

Whereas Musket (not*) would get 4 dice at short range.
