Leaders & Leader Specials

I was under the impression from reading info on the forums quite a while ago that PC was supposed to come with leaders. It seems time is running out again for release and I haven't even seen a hint of this element becoming forthright.

Ranking at only 10 on The List, this idea has been put off for the time being. Again.
We haven't forgotten though, and we're confident leaders will make it into Release.
As a refresher for the new forum additions:

Awards are just eye candy, issued for a certain number of kills (as was in real life) and are displayed in unit's profile.
Heroes are similar to leaders in PG2, but as the screenshots indicate, you can have three of them on each unit. Heroes are also bound to kills, but unlike awards appear at more random points, so you don't know when exactly you'll get a hero. But they don't depend on exp at all, so you can get a hero even if you already have max exp, or you play with exp set to 0%. Each hero will improve various unit stats. Certain heroes can appear only if the unit uses a certain equipment type (e. g. Bf109 for Hartmann) and may give their bonuses only to a certain type too. For fighters and tanks we'll use WW2 aces extensively, but for other classes we'll have to settle for fictional characters, hence the more generic term "hero" instead of "ace".

I hope this feature makes it finnally, since it would be a nice way to personalize your units a bit more, and to introduce blitzkrieg move for tanks, increased range or double shots. But Is also a dangerous source of unbalanced situations, so not sure if all the possible special tratis could be properly tested before release. Crossing fingers here.

Yes, crossing fingers here too. Heroes or leaders would be a great addition ...

There are tons of pictures and names if you search on google with the keywords "wehrmacht+ritterkreutzträger+infanterie" or "wehrmacht+infanteriesturmabzeichen", maybe these are usefull to fill the ranks with heroes...
Also, please consider that many so called aces or heroes did their duty on different types of vehicles, e.g. Wittmann - starting his career as StuG A commander and later Tiger I

I was tempted to bring this up earlier. To be fully realistic, one should be able to upgrade AT units to an Armour class, and so on. I think PG-III got things much more right in this aspect than the older series. Leaders could be assigned to different types of classes that they were not supposed to be familiar with. However, the new leader system also had a lot of flaws too unfortunately.

Well, out plan is not to add something too complex and deep - it is units, not leaders, which should determine the outcome of the battle. So we consider them more as a fun RPG element which would reinforce player's attachment to his units.
