From reading this forum it seems to be an aim to avoid undue benefits being thrown up by BG size - eg the only even nos of elements.

Bow BGs of 6 seem to be a bit disadvantaged - 3 shots from the first rank and 1 from the second - so 4 dice. a group of 4 gives you 3 dice and 8 gives you 6, so you pay for 2 extra bases to get 1 extra dice. 6-8 you pay for 2 extra and get 2 extra dice.

not sure you can do much about it - but it does make organising a bow army difficult.

Its not such a problem in practice. You tend to get a trade-off of going in:

4s = maximum initial firepower but low resilience (and lose the firepower if you lose 1 base)
6s = much more resilient but lower initial firepower (but same after you lose a base note, and 4s are down if they lose base)
8s = maximum firepower and resilient but less manouverability

Even having played 40+ games now I can't honestly say I have a favourite. So it doesn't really make it difficult - just a matter of choice.

Ill rephrase that as 'its making it difficult for me to decide how to use it'

Ill try some of each and see how they go - not that im likely to get a chance of a game before the Leeds lists need to be in on Friday (unless someother Beta person is likely to be in MK on Thursday)

Hey if everyone had figured out how to use the armies in AOW already we wouldn't be having half the fun
