Strategic Bombing Runs

Hi all, just reading through the SSI PG manual on level bomber abilities. Wondering if PC bombers perform the same missions, such as;

Suppressing targets for entire turns.
Reducing fuel an ammo points of enemy units.
Inflict prestige damage when bombing a victory hex, and have a chance to neutralize the target (nationality flag), leaving it open for capture.

Would also be interesting if you could damage rail hexes forcing enemy to repair them before they could be reused.

If you neutralize a target, you can't really capture it anymore.

Suppression from levels is not long-lasting anymore, so don't waste your time in buying these sucker-bets unless you want to hit a navy.

Good for sucking prestige points from enemy.

You really don't want to be doing this. The less units the AI can spam, the less targets you can level up against.

I always have one level bomber in my core army. It comes in handy for taking down those pillbox things that show up in the odd campaign games. Great for taking out the opposing navy and you can recapture a neutralized city by moving into it, who ever gets there first can claim it. Neither side can build at a neutralized city hex till it has been claimed again

Any ideas about bombing or attacking train tracks? Tearing up improvements in Civilization was a good way to slow down the bad guys.

#1. Not entire turns anymore.
#2. Yes.
#3. Yes
#4. It was considered, but got put on the back burner to address more critical features that needed to be implemented.

I use them to reduce entrenchment if there is no navy to obliterate.

I really like the idea of them damaging railway infrastructure, or even road networks, as used in the real world!!

Perhaps a function could be implemented by giving the bomber a 30% chance of damaging a road or rail line. This would change my strategic unit composition to defend against this, if I were the defender, and I would spend more in this area if on the offence against a PBEM opponent.

Hmmm I never used level bombing runs but the idea with the pill boxes and navy are really useful hints. Never thought about trying it because it´d take a place off my core roster. BTW I don´t like the idea about destroying or damaging any infrastructural elements because this would imply extended supply and movement rules.
