First impression as requested

I received the 5.01 rules a few days ago and have had a quick read through of the rules. As requested I am posting thoughts before I have played my first game.
I started at the front and skipped over the introductory stuff and examples and basically started reading in ernest from page 12.
I read fairly swiftly until I reached about page 53. My first thoughts were that the rules seem fairly simple and easy to understand. I haven't read the rules in any great detail as I generally tend to do that as I am playing rather than beforehand (which can result in some fairly lengthy initial games)
I like the combat mechanism and the charge mechanisms. Haven't really got the hang of the movement section without "having a go" first.
I am going to try a Skythian army with plenty of greek allies (as instructed) against a Swiss army on Monday so I will see how it goes. We tried exactly the same match-up yesterday and the skythians won 31-1. It will be interesting to see how the game varies using the differing set of rules next Monday.
My initial thoughts are that troop quality is of paramount importance along with timing and use of generals. I await to be proved incorrect next Monday...
