It struck me while trying to work out what to use in Leeds that we seem (I say seem as I only have 2nd hand reports) to be evolving armies in a fairly historical way.

The first I heard Legionaries were the super troop. Then they got beaten by missle cav, who are now the super troop.

The (logical?) extension is that knights start to beat up on the cav (if supported apropriatly) then everybody is looking for a way of beating knights (pk and longbow). Then its back to heavy infantry to beat the pk and longbow.

Gosh - history in miniature.

To a certain extent yes.

In my early games (pre Usk) I came to the conclusion that Arab Ghilmen were really good and have just taken delivery of enough cavalry and light horse to expand my Berbers to be able to field pretty much any Arab army :)

As a result of my concern regarding bow armed cavalry I decided to take Early Visigoth to Usk to see just how bad an army of undrilled impact foot was. In the end admittedly with the help of a few good dice the Visigoths took out Bruce's all conquering Ghaznavids and had we been a bit better at handling out light troops we could well have taken him down 28-4 or even 32-0.

There is a cycle, it is historical but bow armed cavalry don't always beat close order foot.

It will be interesting to see how Leeds pans out.

Im looking forward to the next level so I can try out HYW English :)
I was going to use them at Leeds, but then rememberd I had sold most of them to pay my Britcon bar bill :(

Looking like something with lots of knights as ive just been painted an load of Polish Knigits that look really cool, and I must be able to use as something...
